BP caught smoking in Texas (IIPM Publication)

An oil refinery of British Petroleum has been rated as the worst polluting plant in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency, which conducted the survey, found that the refinery released three times more pollution in 2004 than it did in 2003. The increase accounted for the bulk of a 15% increase in refinery emissions nationwide in 2004, which is the highest since 2000. There could be federal fines levied against the energy giant if it is found that the company has been underreporting toxic emissions.
